People say that cats are a dime a dozen, yet each cat is unique and has its own personality. One tiny kitten proved this fact to be true. Although most of the people passing by did not appear to see the kitten on the sidewalk, one person stopped and took notice. The kitten captivated the individual’s heart, pushing her to take action.
The person who spotted the tiny ball of fur huddled on the sidewalk was Carmen Weinberg, founder of Animal Friends Project. Weinberg posted that the kitten sat unnoticed in front of a mobile home park office in Lake Worth, Fla. People had to pass the kitten to get in and out of the office, but no one else stopped to check on it.
Capturing the kitten was the first order of business. Weinberg said she placed some food inside a trap near the vehicle the cat was hiding beneath. As soon as the kitten smelled the food, she came out to investigate and went inside the cage. Weinberg shut the door, and the kitten was so hungry she didn’t mind being caught in a cage.
Estrella, as Animal Friends Project named her, was infested with lice, fleas and intestinal parasites. She received the royal treatment, getting cleaned, groomed and fed a special diet to help her recover.
As part of Animal Friends Project’s care, before Estralla could be adopted out, she had to be spayed.
Estrella started on the long road to recovery. Weinberg posted, “She is not eating a lot, but I am giving her kitten formula mixed with vitamins, and she is liking that. She is still fragile, but I think she will improve day by day. She is such a sweet baby.”
In less than one month under Animal Friends Project’s care, Estrella was healthy enough to begin playing with the toys in her pen.
The kitten who couldn’t stop purring once captured had captured the hearts of Animal Friends Project followers and eventually found a permanent home. She’ll never have to worry about being ignored again.
